Get ye to Parlee

posted in Uncategorized |

Have you been up to Parlee Farms this year? Today, you can pick your own apples, flowers and raspberries, or at the Farmstand, they still have fresh peaches as well as apples, blueberries, strawberries and corn. The rarity of a fresh, local peach is something that I have come to cherish, and I’ll go a ways out of my way to get one. I always get a sense of peace and serenity just turning down Farwell Road, lined with stone walls and overhung with trees, it’s like going back in time 30 or so years, then rounding the corner to the welcoming sight of the farm and fields – so much ordered prosperity delights the eye. (It’s a great place to bring the kids, too – they have hayrides, homemade ice cream, fresh donuts and animals!)

Just got a email back from Jay Kaufman’s office on directions to the Old Depot:

If you are coming from Lowell, you can take route 3 to 128 and then exit 31A for routes 4 and 225. Then proceed down 4/225 for a couple miles to Lexington center. Depot Square (a grassy open area) is on your left about a block past the Minuteman statue. Parking is available in the parking lots to the right and behind the Depot building.

We had a great BLT sandwich with fresh tomatoes from Parlee last night, then we finished off with a wonderful apple pie that my girls helped to make. What a great day trip and it is so close. The girls fed the animals, ran the hay maze, picked apples, bought fresh strawberries, and then we finished off the day with the most delicious deserts at the picnic table!
