Bob Martin and friends

posted in Books, City Life |

Bob Martin, gritty poet and songwriter of Lowell’s past and present, will be celebrating the CD release of his first album, Midwest Farm Disaster, first recorded in 1972, tomorrow night, 8:00 pm, at the Brewery Exchange.  I’ve seen Bob perform many times, at the folk festival and in other venues around town and I can attest that he just keeps getting better. I own his last two albums (The River Turns the Wheel, and Next to Nothin’), but never got my hands on the first one, which will be available tomorrow night. To top it off, he’ll be joined by local singer and songwriter, Sandy Spence.  They put on a great show with many tributes to the city they both know and love so well. For information, see Bob’s website

What a great night! Over 150 people packed the third floor of the Brewery. Bob Martin was terrific as usual, and Sandy Spence was so enjoyable. I bought Sandy Spences cd. She did tunes from my era, the 70’s. I wonder if she has a website to find out where she appears in the area. Bob is always so gracious and continued to perform after 3 standing ovations. Lynne

Sorry I didn’t see you there, Lynne. It was really crowded. We had a great time as well. Bob and Sandy were both great, and we also really liked Frank Morey. He has a great bluesy, folksy sound.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to all who did come to the Brewery on that cold Saturday night and made it one of the warmest nights in Lowell. The night was terrific for all of us. Please visit Bob’s website at Riversong.com. Hope you’ll come and see him and Sandy once again playing at the Stage Coach Inn in Groton on Sat. Feb. 29th. A small room intimate concert, nice venue.
Hope to see you there, Anne Marie
