Raking leaves can be fun

posted in Just life |

Yesterday was a great day for raking leaves.  It was especially fun because we got the kids involved (of course we had to pay them) and the cats who found all the scratching and leaf piling particularly curious. After three hours and 35 bags, the fun began to wear off along with the bright autumn sunshine, so we called it quits and went inside for hot cocoa and whipped cream. What a wonderful way to get some fresh air and exercise after a weekend of feasting!

Had to pay them? Michael does not grok this concept. So, I take it your kids pay you for their room and board. ;-0

Here, we each and all have family chores, as in I’m the main cook and food shopper, as well as do the house repairs. My three shovel snow, rack leaves, take out trash and recycling and such. They sometimes earn extra cash doing lawns or walks for others, though.

I guess I’m really old or really old fashioned.

Typo note: Perhaps my boys rake leaves rather than rack them.

I agree about the sharing chores, and in our family, we definitely have specific jobs to do everyday: loading the dishwasher, washing pans, taking out the trash, folding laundry etc. For a big job such as raking all those leaves, it was easier and the workers were more willing when there was a monetary award attached–not that it’s right…
